Patricia Wants to Bake

I uploadad a new video to YouTube. This time about baking.

I have regained my love for baking, and now that I’m in the last stages of my weight loss I want to start baking again, and combine it with a healthy diet.

The videos are in Spanish but they are pretty visual and the recipes are nothing you cannot find elsewhere.

Anyway, if you like baking or just want to watch me being silly, go suscribe and show some love.

Pin-Up Style: The Settling

Hello again. 2017 has meant one step beyond.

It started by me realising I had to buy clothes that were my actual size instead of dreaming about losing some weight.

On April I travelled to London with my husband and we went to Camden Market. I visited the Collectif Clothing shop and lots of other places, including the street stalls.

That’s where I got a really nice skirt.

At the beggining of July, we went to Madrid for a few days and I visited Chopper Monster. I followed them on social medi and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to go have a look.

I was positively surprised. Not only they were not the typical shop where everything is Gothic, Rockabilly, black, red, roses and skulls. But also they had a lot of clothing and a lot of variety. And on Sales.

I tried some things on, for example this dress.

Martina Dress by Hell Bunny.

Unfortunately, it didn’t fit correctly, whicha was a pity because it is a beautiful dress. It is a Cherry dress without being the typical cherry dress.

I did get a couple of things there.

While being in Madrid, another order I made before we went away arrived.

Daniella Skirt by Lindy Bop
Marie Skirt from Lindy Bop
Imelda Dress from Lindy Bop

Unfortunately, this last one didn’t fit well, so I returned it.

But I already had some really nice clothes and I could match the skirts with some Zara tank tops I got.

At the end of July I took advantage of some super sales both from Lindy Bop and Collectif Clothing. And these included some Doloes tops.

I had been curious for some time then, and I had the chance to try them on in Madrid but I didn’t. So I took the step.

And that’s pretty much all I have advanced this year.

I also try to dress like this everyday. It feels really nice to able to do it.

To feel comfortable and pretty at the same time.

I’ll keep you updated with my adventures.

You cans ask or suggest what you like.

Pin-Up Style: The Beggining

This is the second part of this series, and it’s about how I started.

As I said on the previous post, on November 2015 I decided to make an order from Lindy Bop.

I got several skirts. Just skirts. Why? Because I thought it would be less «agressive» to begin with things I could match with «normal» clothes so the style was less shocking. Mistake no.1.

Based on the dress I already had, I ordered size 12. Mistake no.2. Always look at the size chart goven by the website. ALWAYS.

They arrived, I tried them on, and obviously they didn’t fit. But thet mentality we all have… «Oh don’t worry, I’ll lose weight». Mistake no.3.

As of today, almost two years later, thay are still tight. I fully realised that the day I decided to buy clothes my size. But we will discuss that later.

Ok, so skirts. And what else?

Ideally, I should wear some top that is tight-fitting on the waist and is tucked in the skirt. But I don’t have tight-fitting clothes. Or a waist, for that matter.

So I wore normal fitted t-shirts and, as it was Winter, a cardigan.

And scarcely.

Lindy Bop has the tendency to bring up a sale after the other. And so, on December I ordered again, dresses this time.

Size 12, as it was the same style I had already tried, so it would be ok.

Last summer, more dresses arrived.

This gave me the chance to be able to wear something on this style during the summer, because trying to match the skirts and looking good was impossible.

Except for one.

More into the Summer (here Summer goes from April/May to September/October) I fell in love with polo shirts.

So I went wearing t-shirts, polos and sneakers. And the dresses that fitted.

The dresses that fitted, you said?

On one of the orders, I got two Audreys in plain colours and one in b&w gingham (as shown in pictures). But oh, horror.

They were older models so the fabric was different, thinner, so they were really a size 12..

But then again, there they are, in my closet.

Anyway, here’s my first year and a half. As I said, I didn’t dress like this on a daily basis. I went from home to work (with uniform), and back again, so it wasn’t worth it. The climate didn’t help either.

I had my moments of thinking «what am I doing?», of considering stopping and going back to «normal» clothes.

But I have never been normal. For hardly anything.

I just needed to find my own way.

Pin-Up Style: Origins

Committing to a specific style is always complicated.

Specially if it is not standard.

Specially if your body is not standard.

Specially if you live in a country where it is hardly accessible if not through the Internet.

Specially if you live in a country where you cannot try to be extravagant or everyone will look at you as if you were crazy.

Moreover, if the style requires certain infrastructure, and you live in the Hell Mouth, the thing gets interesting.

But as I said at the beginning, committing.

For two years, I’ve been focusing gradually towards this style. And I don’t mean typical Rockabilly Pin-Up black and red with flowers and all that, but a larger one including 1950s style.

It all began in 2015.I was about to say on my friend Silvia’s wedding, but it may be on my own wedding.

I will not bore you with the details of picking and making my dress, maybe in another post.

I will just say that I found a style that I really liked and I think it flatters me, so I married in a 50s style, mid length and full skirt.

That same year, my friend Silvia got married in a similar style and, established that the dress code for her wedding should be a 50s Pin-Up style.

So, looking for dresses, I found several websites related to this style, and I saw myself prancing with joy.

We also discovered a little shop in the city centre where we could find this kind of clothes. Many of the guests got their outfits there.

I had mine already picked online, but I did buy the petticoat there.

Dress from Lindy Bop, bought online.              Petticoat from Lindy Bop, bought at Petita Valero.

In the process of searching the dress for my friend’s wedding, I went two or three times to Petita Valero, to try on some similar styles as well as the petticoat.

In one of those visits, I had a revelation. It was that kind of day when you woke up at 4am, worked your shift, your hair is dirty and your make up is melted.

So I entered the shop to find this.

«Today we had a visit from Miss Ginger Tulips, Marjoleen, a Pin Up blogger we love. She fell in love with these two dresses and are they incredible on her. It’s been a pleasure to see you again, thanks for your visit!»

I went through the shop feeling like an old rag (to put it nicely). There I was with my t-shirt, jeans, trying on my petticoat over that, and that girl who looked like she was someone from Mad Men telling me how nice it was.

That same day I started following her on Instagram, and like her, some others I kept finding.

And little by little I discovered that a lot of people dress like that every day. And I loved it.

It requires a budget, I won’t deny it. You have to build a whole new wardrobe.

So from my humble humbleness, I lurked through the websites, fantasising, until December came and the sales with it. And I took the step and made an order.

One after the other.

But that would be another post.
